Porsche Boxster Dead Battery Replacement

The original Moll battery in the Boxster finally died in January 2005. It was almost eight years old, so its failure was not unexpected. Interestingly, it did not die in the same way other batteries have. Although it would barely crank the engine, it could actually start the car. The charger, left running all night, had no effect.

I spent about $100 for an Interstate model MTP-91. It's important to get the right battery. Porsche, and others like BMW and Alfa Romeo, requires a vent tube connection on the battery. Replacement is simple. I didn't want to lose my clock and reenter my radio code, so I connected my 12V battery charger to the power leads before removing the old battery. The 12V supply kept power to all the components during the swap. Use a 13mm socket for the hold down, and a 10mm six-point wrench for the post clamps.
