Cherokee 3.5" Lift Installation - TeraFlex Shackle Installation Instructions
TeraFlex Instruction for BB1X (part two)
RSX Rear Shackle Kit XJ Cherokee
1. Place vehicle on a clean level working area. Set emergency brake and block tires on opposite side of vehicle that you will be installing spring shackle lift. Be sure that vehicle will not roll. Do not use power impact or air ratchet to tighten nuts, they are nylon insert locknuts (aircraft style) and need only be tightened with a wrench by hand.
2. Using a floor jack, lift one end of vehicle until wheels clear ground by at least 3 inch. Place jack stands under frame rail just behind inner spring perch. Lower vehicle onto jack stands, but keep the axle supported with the floor jack.
3. While the axle is still being supported by the floor jack, remove the upper and lower spring shackle mounting hardware and left and right spring shackle plates. Lower the axle (carefully release the pressure on the floor jack) until the wheels rest on the ground.
4. Examine upper spring perches or frame spring shackle mounts on both sides of vehicle for any damage. If any damage is noted, it must be repaired to "new" factory original condition before this spring shackle kit can be installed.
5. Examine upper spring perch bushing on both sides of vehicle for any damage or excessive wear. If any damage is noted, the bushing must be replaced with "new" factory original units.
6. Install spring shackle lift and hardware to upper spring perch or frame mount and bushing. DO NOT FULLY TIGHTEN at this time.
7. Using the floor jack, raise the axle until the leaf spring and bushing fit inside the spring shackle lift unit. Insert bolt with washer through shackle and spring bushing. Install washer and nylock nut. (NOTE: if bolt seems to "hang up" and will not go through both sides of shackle , adjust hole alignment by lifting or lowering axle and spring with floor jack or reinsert bolt and washer from the opposite side. DO NOT "POUND" bolt through the holes: this could result in damage to bolt, shackle and/or bushing.
8. Check your factory repair manual for proper torque specifications. Be sure the torque specification are for the proper year, make, model of your vehicle. Tighten to proper factory specifications. Be careful to not over-tighten bolts; damage to shackle or vehicle can result.
9. After all steps have been completed on both sides of vehicle, the installation is complete.
