Cherokee Interior Tie Down Hooks

I added tie down hooks to the rear cargo area. I use them a lot, and I'm really glad to have my cargo secured. A roll-over on the trail is a real possibility, and loose gear would create a big mess. More importantly, flying gear during a severe roll-over or a highway accident would be extremely dangerous.

I used 3/8" eye bolts. The ID of the eye is 1" which means I can fit three (or more) of those large tie-down hooks (pics 4 & 6) through each eye, and that's nice. Having a big eye turns out to be important. The eyes seemed too big when I first installed them, but bigger is better in this case.

The forward hooks are simply bolted with washers front and back. The rear hooks are installed differently because I had to replace the plastic trim before installing the eye bolts. I welded the 3/8" nuts to steel plates, drilled the body, then welded the nut plates to the body. After the trim is installed, the eye bolt is screwed in.
