Cherokee XJ Floor Pan Metal Work & Seat Lift

This Writeup is Under Construction

Installation of the Klune-V underdrive pushed back the transfer case. I needed to extend the transfer case bump to the rear, and that required some floor pan metal work. This is the first time I've welded sheet metal and the first time I've used a MIG welder. My brief experience, 18 years prior, with a stick welder was somewhat helpful. It's mostly my enormous brain and a willingness to screw up my Jeep that got me through this project.

In addition to the floor pan work, I lifted the driver's seat about an inch. The seat lift gave me more clearance from the newly-expanded hump, but more importantly it gave me a little extra height while driving... very helpful while off-road.

Final floor shape being welded. The yellow outline shows where metal was added. The extended t-case hump is welded and protected with rust converting paint. Extended t-case hump painted with 911T Tangerine. The 3/4" iron pipe cap is to raise the seat. Modified seat bracket in place and elevated with risers.

The Klune-V shifter location is just below the Ox shifter... hidden under the seat. The Klune-V cable is protected where it enters the cabin by a small piece of rubber hose. The extended transfercase hump is visible from the rear seat.
