Cherokee Fan Rubbing Fix

Due to some previously unnoticed pre-purchase body damage, the radiator/fan assembly was pushed back into contact with the power steering pump pully. The contact was causing a periodic (usually in drive and under power) horrible noise and was causing the electric fan to be slowly eaten away to the smell of burning plastic.

A portion of the in-engine body work behind the driver's side headlight was bent backwards. After removing the radiator-covering metal strip and the air box, I was able to hammer/sledge the metal forward and back into position. The work gained about 1/8" to 3/16" clearance for the fan. This work, along with the transmission mount replacement, should prevent further problems.

Here's a few pictures of the body work... before and after. It's hard to see how badly bent the area was, but I've circled the area in question and you can see the difference in relation to the air box. The airbox goes through a rectangular hole in the body and is supposed to line up with the air box foam insulation. Now it does.

The rectangular hole should be lined up with the air box insulation. Body misalignment and damage shown here. After some pounding, the body and insulation are lined up and moved forward about a 1/4" or so.
